Learning Hope from the Sun
I knew I was going to write about the sun this week, it flowed perfectly from last week’s energy and then today my old teacher POTS showed up.
I’ve lived with this condition for nearly a decade now, who knows, maybe more, and today, it was hard to see the sun, to identify with that bountiful life giving energy, when truly my pain levels were through the roof, and I had little fire in me to even move a limb.
I found myself searching for hope.
Whenever anything sun related comes up in a reading or vision, I breathe a sigh of relief. It overrides everything, it tells you that sunny days are ahead, that things will come good, even if it all feels like a trash heap.
Historically the return of the sun was lifegiving. It represented survival. You’d made it through the winter, food wouldn’t be quite so scarce, the days would grow longer and our bellies would be full again. We’d celebrate and rejoice. Praise be!
Now, I don’t think I really need to explain the sun’s energy in divination, it’s pretty straightforward. In Runes it’s represented by Sowilo, in Tarot, it is named quite literally The Sun (the deck above is Finnish). However, I did come across a juicy tidbit recently that I wanted to share…
Over the past year or so the Greek symbol Sigma has cropped up more and more in vision for me and it had me puzzled for quite some time.
Recently, when I looked into it, I actually found that Sigma formed the basis for the development of Sowilo in the Elder Futhark (the version of the runic alphabet I use). So to me it carries a similar energy, though I don’t fully understand all its layers yet.
Though I hope to delve into it more over time. There’s that word again… hope.
It’s a powerful one.
In truth, some days I get so bogged down with my physical ailments, they start to compound and feel all consuming.
And that word, hope, it’s what gets me through. And to me, that’s one layer of what the sun represents.
So if you’re struggling in whatever regard, I 10/10 can recommend looking to the sun’s symbology and harnessing its juicy hopeful, lifegiving energy to get you through.
Put the Sun Card in your bathroom, Sowilo by your bed. Maybe even test out working with Sigma, I haven’t added it into my sigils yet, but I might just give that a go this week (ps - if you have any experience with it I’d love to know).
And remember that the sun will always shine again. Let its warmth be your solace even on the darkest days.
Until next week, be well, stay curious.
